Sprucing up your front door, porch area doesn’t have to cost a lot? We sure don’t want to make it too difficult of a project either. Actually, keeping things simple & easy is just what we like!
We recently had a FrugElegance by Design staging job but the front porch was in need of a little TLC. Fru-Girls to the rescue!! We decided to do the clean up project for the wonderful homeowner who had a great deal of other work to do in preparation for her upcoming move. Plus, we get to take pics & make this blog post to share with you all.
Now, let’s start with some basic clean up & tidying up. Remove all debris and sweep area clean. Also, using a damp cloth, wipe clean the dust, dirt & cob webs from the front door & windows.
This old bench has been seriously beaten down from the elements but instead of throwing it away, we want to use it. So we give it the quickest & easiest makeover possible. A light scraping & sanding is all we do (we could’ve done more but we just wanted to keep things fast & easy). After the prep, we spray a coat of black spray paint.
If you look really really close at the bench you can see the dings & imperfections. But it’s so much better than it was before. Enough so that the eye will tend to see the positive & not the negative. Time to complete the look, with the most important part, we add some big, bright & colorful outdoor pillows.
With a few added touches to other parts of the porch, like adding a pretty polka dot ribbon to the bunny statue.
It all came together so beautifully. Nothing fancy, no extra money spent except for some supplies. We also added a pair of Lanterns that you might recognize. Because we use them in many of our posts. They are one of our staple decor pieces that we use all year round. We especially love to put battery operated timer candles inside. They turn on each night and have such a natural beautiful look that adds so much charm to your space inside & out.
We freshened up the planter near the rabbit statue. The planter by the lanterns & front door needed a full makeover. We had a couple cool tricks to help with planting in larger size planters, so dont forget to check out the DIY Post we made about it. To tie both plants together, we used a few small plants: coleus and impatiens. The red leaves pop & tie in both planters, the bench with red pillows & the red door. It all comes together so Frug-Elegantly.
We have said this before but need to say it again- No matter if you live in an apartment or a large house, the front door area is where your friends & family will enter your home. Keeping it clean, clutter free & FrugElegant decorated will make an impression on all.
