Santa’s Cookie Tray is a fun part of our Christmas Home Decor!
We started with a super cute plastic Christmas Plate we found at our local Dollar Tree. To turn it into a decorative chalkboard we painted the center with Chalkboard Paint. Keeping it a fast & easy DIY project, we painted the chalk paint freehand. If you look close, you can see the edges are not perfect but that’s more than ok with us… and we are sure Santa won’t mind either.
After the chalkboard paint is thoroughly dry, it’s time to write a message to Santa using an opaque paint marker. Don’t stress if you make a mistake (see any mistakes in the picture?! LOL), it’s an easy fix with a little touch up chalkboard paint & a small brush. Just remember to let it dry.
Use items you already own to decorate your tray.
The reindeer need treats too! A jar, a small sign & one package of carrots is all we needed. The carrots are so decorative all by themselves thanks to the rich colors & the long green leaves. We had 2 ideas to decorate the jar so we tried both… 1- we used a reusable plant tag & stake (for labeling garden veggies) & used a marker to hand write “Reindeer Treats”. Our 2nd idea- we tied the plant tag using some jute twine. We love the way they both came out.
It isn’t about buying expensive platters & fancy glassware unless that is what you want to do of course. Using items you already own & adding a few frug-elegant finds can bring it all together. The sky is the limit so have fun. All the kids, including the kids at heart, will all love getting the snacks ready for Santa & his Reindeer. And don’t forget the finishing touches! After everyone goes to bed to take a few sips, a few bites & leaves some cookie crumbs from the tray to the fireplace (or window or door). When everyone wakes up in the morning have the camera ready to capture the looks on their faces.
