We have a new option for our delicious Hummingbird Cake recipe! It’s one of our most popular recipe posts (it’s been re-pinned on Pinterest over 21,000 times), and we think our Rustic Layer Hummingbird Cake will be a fan favorite like our frosted layer hummingbird cake and our bundt style hummingbird cake.
We’re following the same recipe from our Best Hummingbird Cake Recipe, to make both the cake layers and the frosting.
Cover the wood slice serving board with parchment or wax paper and then place first layer in the center. The parchment paper will keep the serving board clean from excess icing. Generously frost middle and top layers (no sides). You want to see the cream cheese frosting from the sides. (Also note that we are not going to sprinkle the delicious pecans on the top of our cake this time. Instead we are adding chopped pecans onto the frosted middle layers.) When finished adding the frosting, slide the parchment paper out from the bottom of the cake.
Using a spoon to spread the top into a pretty pattern, now you are ready to add some rustic finishing touches…
Some fresh cut greens, from our local Trader Joe’s, are placed around the wood slice serving tray as well as throughout the dessert table. Around the cake’s bottom layer are edible flowers – beautiful & super cool aren’t they!? If you can’t use fresh cut greenery, there are excellent artificial greenery options available at local craft stores or online. Boy, have they improved from the old days of looking like bright green plastic. LOL!
Hummingbird cakes are perfect for special occasions, holidays or anytime! It’s our Easter tradition!! This recipe is such a winner. Bundt, layers, cupcakes and more.. its all a winner. Let us know how you make yours!
