Yeah, it’s time for the Craft Lightning Halloween Blog Hop! What’s a Craft Lightning? Participating bloggers share a project that takes 15 minutes or less (not including drying time) to be created. Just what we LOVE Fast & Easy home decor! Our Light Up Skull is super easy to create & looks Spooktacular.
Some affil links are being added to help you compare products/pricing.
Stores are putting out their Halloween Decor now & some similar looking “Pedestal Skulls” are quite expensive. We knew we had to recreate the look for less!
Supplies we used: 2 Battery Operated Tea-Light Candles, 2 Small Melamine Plates, 2 Glass Candle Stick Holders (ONLY $1 each!), 2 Halloween Craft Skulls (we bought ours at our local Michael’s Craft Store, 1 can Black Spray Enamel, 1 can Black Glitter Spray Paint
- Using a glue gun, we glue the melamine plates to the candle stick holders.
- Before we paint the skull & pedestal plates, we cover the faux flames of the tea lights with blue painters tape *note, you really don’t need to paint the tea light candles since they aren’t seen when they are inside the skull, guess painting that can be its own lightning craft- YES, cause they look so awesome. When they are all the sparkle looks great.
- Now it’s time to paint. We first use a light coat of Rustoleum Black Enamel but any store brand enamel spray paint is great because this is just a light coat. You don’t have to but we do it to save from having to use more of the sparkle spray paint which costs more than the plain enamel.
- Next we spray the black sparkle spray paint. No need to paint heavy coats or look to cover the skull perfectly- it looks awesome with some imperfections.
**please note that glue gun craft glue is fast, easy & holds well but does not hold well for long term use. If you want a more permanent long term pedestal plate stand, E 6000 glue is strong & water resistant.
After paint is thoroughly dry, remove the blue tape from candles, turn lights on and place in the center the top of the new pedestal plate stand. Place the skull on top. Spook-y! Hope you will come back to see how/where we are using these Light Up Skulls in our Halloween Home Decor! Don’t take a chance to forget & go to the right side of this website & sign up in the “Never Miss a Post” box. We never share your email EVER. You will only receive a message that there’s a new post.
