DIY Home Office Printer Stand & Storage for Printing Paper & Ink Supplies!
A new desk but no storage below for the printer or supplies so time for a DIY project. A large size wood wine crate is easily turned into a printer stands that also doubles as a storage container to hold printer paper & ink cartridges.
First we started with installing wheels. Exactly the same way we installed them for our Wheeled Wine Crates for Pantry Storage. We could’ve stopped there because the natural look of the wood has a beautiful rustic chic to it, but we wanted to try to match the desk. Which should we do- spray paint OR chalk paint OR what? We wanted to keep the look of the grain so we decided to go with stain. Used less than a Pint of Ebony Minwax Wood Finish did the job perfectly. So so easy, its crazy. Using a small rag, dip into the wood finish & rubbed the crate till it was completely filled with the color (always wiping in the direction of the grain).
Beautiful as is or decorated- the sky is the limit. We went for simple & easy, using a computer to print words mirror image, line with chalk, flip over, write the letters so the chalk makes a line on the box and then easily go over with a paint maker to make your lettering. Stencils are another option or even just freehand writing. Our post DIY Wedding Signs shows this technique too.
Now the desk & printer stand match like they are a set. Love how it came out!

I love the matching contrast on the finishes! Were you able Minwax both the desk and wine crate with one pint? Also, did you prep the desk and crate by sanding first, or did you finish them with the natural look?

Hi Winepine- The desk came that way. We just tried to match the desk as close as possible. and no sanding, no prep other than wiping it clean. And plenty of stain left over too. Thanx for writing!
