As you know we LOVE to save money and artwork can be quite expensive. AND we want it to look elegant & expensive. The FruGirls have a little trick to making lemons out of lemonade- aka clearance art turned into elegant art!
One of our favorite things is turning super major discounted decor into something “frug-elegant” (frugal elegant home decor). Our blog FrugElegance.com is where we like to share our ideas with you. FrugElegance by Design is our staging & decorating business. We are starting to post more about it so look forward to more details coming soon under the about us tab.
Ever see a clearance section of your favorite decor store but all those deep discounted items are the wrong everything. We LOVE those because those 80 or 90% off items can be the bones for creating an easy NEW something.
These goodies- 2 frames & 1 poster were in the summer clearance section at our local Hobby Lobby. The 2 framed artwork, without changing, would’ve been $140!! Not that we would’ve ever paid that.. 1- because they frequently run specials for 40-50% off or 2- they run coupons for 40% off one original priced item. Anyhow, we got each framed art piece for $7 & one unframed poster for $3.30!
This was a super easy project!
- first, we removed the back paper off the back of the frames.
- the tabs that secure the board & artwork needed to be bent up to allow the board & art to be removed.
- on the side, we carefully cut the poster into two equal sections.
- to hold the art more securely we sprayed a light coat of Craft Bond Glue on the back of each poster & then put in place on the board
- replaced boards into frames with their new artwork and now we have 2 beautiful matching pieces of framed art.
Can you believe these 2 matching framed wall art pieces cost under $20!? We are thrilled the way they came out & will be using these on an upcoming staging project.
Check out the clearance sections on HobbyLobby.com going on now. Huge discounts! Some more favorites: TJMaxx.com, and Amazon. Happy Clearance Shopping!
