Easy to make, colorful & bright, we created these Flower Hair Clips for a backyard summer party. With matching flower centerpieces & tissue paper pompoms everything came together beautifully & for so much less!
Supplies Needed:
- a variety of Faux Flowers (dollar store)
- Hair Clips (dollar store)
- Small Crystal Stones (local craft store)
- Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
Step 1: Take apart silk flowers from the stems & pieces that keep them attached. You do not need to do much more than a gentle pull to get them apart because they are being held together by plastic that is a bit soft & bendable. The top 2 or 3 layers of the flower have its own separate piece that will need to be gently pulled apart as well. You can see, in the picture, it looks like it’s pitching the center piece tighter to close the flower. This whitish color piece is very soft & slides down off the stem.
Step 2: Now you can have lots of layers & you can rearrange & mix-up the different styles & layers & colors per your preferences for each hair clip you are creating. Make sure to have the bottom layer be the largest & continue to the top layer in size order. Use as many or as few layers as you prefer.
Step 3: When you have the orders all put together, start with the bottom-most layer first…add some glue onto the top of the clip (make sure the clip is open so it doesn’t get glued together from any extra glue that might drip) and lay the bottom layer onto the glue.
Repeat for each layer added.
Last Step: For a finishing touch & to hide the tiny center hole, apply a small amount of warm glue & place a small crystal (use any color crystal), slightly press into place, hold for a sec to secure & place flower hair clip aside to dry for a few short minutes. When completely dry, if you feel the clip & the flower doesn’t feel securely connected, you can always add a little more glue around the edge, as seen in the picture.
Hope you enjoy making & wearing your flower hair clip! We are using ours for a party. Putting them in a basket with a small sign telling all the ladies to wear one in their hair. What are you doing with yours? Leave us a comment, send us a message, share a picture with us!
Come see our Flower Centerpieces we created using the same silk flowers – perfect together for the same celebration. And our Tissue Paper Party Flowers (PomPoms)

Did you have any problems with the flower not staying on the metal hair clip? I just tried making my first flower hair clip and after only two bends of clipping/unclipping the flower came right off. I’m a little worried because I’m making these for a party in less than a week! Help!

Hi Katie, No we had no issues but maybe because we used quite a bit of glue on it. Are you using a generous amount of glue?
