Best DIY Faux (Fake) Snowballs for your Winter & Holiday Decor..
Tis the season for some extra special holiday decorating. Let’s bring some beautiful winter wonderland magic indoors. Since we obviously can’t bring in the real stuff, we have a DIY festive (faux) snowballs project that the whole family can do together. You can find several different versions online using glue, glitter, even toilet paper but they are either too complicated or too messy. This DIY is just right!
Supplies Needed:
- 1 can of Krylon Make It Stone! Spray Paint
- 1 bag Buffalo Snow Flurries
- Assorted Styrofoam Balls
- We are using wooden skewers to hold styrofoam balls
- Something to stand them up while drying (a cardboard box works well).
- Protective plastic tarp to keep area clean (spray outside).
First stick the skewer into a styrofoam ball and spray the Krylon Make It Stone! Spray evenly around the ball. Next, sprinkle the Flurries onto the wet paint. Good tips: We poured some flurries into a small bowl & dipped the styrofoam ball into the flurries. And for thicker texture, repeat the steps. Let thoroughly dry before using in decor. This is for decoration only.
We hope you will come see our Christmas Home tour to see how we are using these snowballs?

Can these be used to decorate outdoors? I tried something like this and the snow fell off. Thanks

Hi Sue, These are best for indoor use. Depending on your location and the elements, it’s probably not going to last outdoors. Let us know if you try it and what happens.

you can use course glass glitter too with a glue that will hold up outside 🙂

Thank you for this – this is a great idea! Does the snow stick on or do you think a spray sealer would be needed to keep little pieces from falling off? Using snow balls as indoor decorations, but know my 4 year old will try to use them throughout the house 🙂

Hi Margo, The way we made them, they are for decoration only. If played with they will have some flakes come off. It sounds worth a try to spray a sealer but the snowballs will probably lose the soft flakey realistic look. Sounds worth trying it on one first. One suggestion, might be worth having some sealed for touching and some for decor only. Let us know how it goes.
